До появления Загнанного, Pursued Большая тропа была тем фильмом Уолша, где режиссер попытался охватить как можно больший кусок реальности. Поражает масштабность его охвата, от недр земли до самых далеких небес. Его устремления огромны, их даже можно назвать космическими, даже если Уолш не прибегает к традиционным гуманистическим и литературным приемам, чтобы выдвинуть их на 1-й план.N.В. В автобиографии, в главе под названием «Христофор Колумб открыл только Америку», Уолш рассказывает, как подарил Джону Уэйну 1-ю главную роль. Большая тропа была снята в 2 версиях: 1-я была выпущена на обычной, 35-мм пленке: 2-я - в новом формате для большого экрана «Величина 70 мм».
